Title: " After the Missile Crisis: Forty Years of Covering Cuba "
Since 1963 when the Kennedy administration placed an economic embargo on Cuba, relations between the two countries have been tense and often antagonistic. Television has interpreted this relationship and covered important political and cultural events involving the two countries, and the medium has been used as a platform to advance opposing political agendas. Panelists will discuss issues such as Cuban refugees, the creation of Radio Marti and TV Marti (the U.S.-based stations broadcasting to Cuba), the Elian Gonzalez case, and former President Jimmy Carter's recent visit to the country.
