Title: " Cuban Missile Crisis and Television, The "
On October 22, 1962, prime-time programming was interrupted so that President John F. Kennedy could announce the discovery of Soviet missile installations in Cuba. Rather than privately confront Moscow on the situation, Kennedy chose to bring the gravity and urgency of the emerging crisis directly into homes around the globe through the electronic media, an unprecedented act that had an extraordinary impact. This panel will examine the role the media played in one of the seminal events of the twentieth century.
