This seminar discusses the social, political and historical influences that have shaped depictions of African-American life from the outrageous stereotypes of Amos ‘n’ Andy in the postwar era to the success of The Cosby Show in the 1980s. The trend in recent years of burgeoning networks concentrating on African-American themed programming is also discussed. Panelists: Topper Carew, Jannette Dates, Tim Reid, Mel Watkins.
