Growing up in a rural barrio of Puerto Rico, Roberto Clemente practiced baseball tirelessly to succeed. At 18, Clementes passion became his profession as he joined the Puerto Rican League and two years later came to the U.S. to play. Though the adjustment was trying at times, he became a favorite with fans, helping to bring the Pittsburgh Pirates to the World Series in 1960. In 1966 Clemente became the first Puerto Rican to win the National Leagues Most Valuable Player award, and later he was the first Hispanic voted into baseballs Hall of Fame.
